Would You Date 3 People At Once?

Would you date 3 people at once?

3 people who look different, like different cuisines, have different music tastes, have different personalities, and even speak different languages?

This might sound like fun to some, but to most people, it’s a resounding no. It’s EXHAUSTING and absolutely impossible to give anyone your full attention, not to mention the moral implication of it all, but that’s beside the point (and I do have a point, promise!).

1 relationship is difficult enough to nurture and maintain. Can you imagine nurturing 3 relationships at once, with the hope that each of them will turn into a strong loving relationship to last a lifetime???

You probably can’t, because it sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it?

It is. You will never be able to give anyone your full attention and love and get the same love back in return. Sure, you could try, but it would never work.
I’m here to tell you that dating 3 people at once, is just like trying to talk to 3 clients at once.

How? Continue reading the latest blog from Lala for Business to find out!

Why business is (kinda) like dating

We’ve established that you likely wouldn’t date 3 people at once, so why are you trying to talk to 3 clients at once?

I don’t mean that you can’t have 3 clients at once (of course, you can). What I mean is, why are you trying to speak to 3 (or 4 or 5) different audiences at once?

I know, you probably don’t want to leave anyone out, or lose any business. You might also be scared to niche or drill your ideal client down to a perfectly characterised avatar, but it actually couldn’t be more important that you focus on one audience.

Because… if you’re talking to everybody, you’re talking to nobody!

Get clear on your ideal date (customer)

As an Australian small business expert, I work with business owners all the time and watch them on social media.

The most common mistake I see: Inconsistent branding and messaging!

From the graphics they use and their branding, to the language and tone of voice of their copy, nothing is consistent. And these are often the businesses that complain about social media not working for them… See where I’m going with this?

Often, these businesses are speaking to yet another client on their website, and another in their email marketing. Can you imagine how confusing this is for their potential customers?

Not only does your messaging lack clarity and consistency, your ideal customer probably isn’t reading it, because they don’t know they’re your ideal customer in the first place. Just like if you’re dating 3 people at once, that 1 you like the most, doesn’t even know it. And that’s just sad!

Dating (social media) works if you do it right

Social media WORKS, IF you do it right. IF you get clear on your ideal client and stop trying to speak to different types of clients at once. In fact, over 85% of my business comes from social media and it’s the case for many businesses I know.

Haven’t been able to make social media work for your small business?

It’s likely due to a few reasons:

  • You are speaking to too many different groups of people
  • Your branding is not created to attract your dream customers/clients
  • Your messaging is inconsistent
  • You are not putting out content that will attract our dream customers/clients while repelling others (yes, I said repel!).
  • Your visuals aren’t professional or appealing (people see images 60,000 times faster than text!).
  • Your website doesn’t match your social media.
